Building safety code required that we increase the head clearance in the stairway. As Jerrel cut into the floor, he discovered it was a load bearing beam which needed some repair. We are so glad he found it. While being repaired, they had to support a portion of the third floor with many 2×4’s.
December 5 No wallpaper, and the 2×4’s are no longer needed.

Tony discovered an old stair rail going to the 2nd floor. It was much steeper than the current one. We think these stairs predated the third floor. We decided to keep the original baseboards even though they were not the same size as those on the 1st floor. The circular defect in the lathe was cut to vent a coal-burning heater.

We discovered this paper on the back side of B/Kasi room.
Shiplap has now been placed. The Royal “We” discussed this addition at 0300. Apparently I agreed to it, but it really does look good.I need to remember this tactic the next time I need something, like a new shotgun or boat.
