Bently’s and Kellan’s Bedroom

????????The second floor has four bedrooms 17 x17 square and each room has it’s own fireplace.  Each of the daughter-in-laws- have staked claim to their bedroom and will assist in helping to decorate them. The fourth bedroom will be a study/project room for me (Pat). Bri’s  and Jordan’s room happens to be the old birthing room where all the seventeen Dent children were born. That is probably why the floor has a significant bowed area.  Bently’s and Kellan’s room has the 1920’s wallpaper with original plaster.  Kasi’s and Brennan’s room has a wonderful view of the sunset and a unique antique chandelier. All the rooms have a small closet, and they have a door connecting them to the adjoining bedroom. On the back side of the original house are the twin baths.  We are not sure when they were added. Even though they are small, they will serve their purpose.  A huge antique chest was left in the hallway.  We are planning to use it as a coffee station.  Someone can give us a Keurig for Christmas.

B/K’s was the first bedroom to have exposed brick because when the workers began to remove the wallpaper the plaster fell off the wall.  It was like the ship in the ocean – “the front fell off”.

All the large windows use a pulley system of counter weights so they can be raised and lowered easily.  The weights were taken out during abatement and were reinstalled for us to continue to use.  It is amazing how well this system works.

Floating Fireplace

The fireplace mantles have to be moved to comply with code.  We are going to use brick for the hearth.  The cove molding has reminded me of college signing day, as we have flipped what we are going to do several times. I think a solution has been found. though.

Fireplace is now laced with the brick, and the hearth is coming next.  Deciding exactly what to do with the cove mold has been a bit of a bug-a-boo because the windows go all the way to the ceiling.  The question is, “aesthetically where and how do you stop the molding at the windows and the fireplaces?”  We also had to consider window treatments, which is why we stopped the molding 8″ from the window trim.  We are planning to put rods and panels on these large front windows.  So for awhile, this will look a bit awkward.  Roman shades may be the choice of window treatment for the side windows because we don’t want to cover up the beautiful old wood that has been exposed.

Lots of painting and finishing of the fireplaces.  Note the trim and liming wax on the mantles, as well as the finished brickwork.  The last step will be painting the fire brick black. In Pat’s study, the walls and the cove molding are painted.
